Vertical & Roof Top

The concept of vertical and even roof top gardens isn’t a new one. Eastern European countries have been doing this for centuries. In more recent times the concept has been taken over the head in Germany and Switzerland where most apartment and office buildings have a roof top garden for either aestetics and practical use or even just for the environment benefits. Studies have shown that a roof top or vertical garden will significantly reduce energy heating costs in the long term for both hot and cold weather conditions, noise, pollution and ambient reflected heat is also greatly reduced.

climber-on-wall

A vertical garden can be as simple as a climber on a wall. Sustainable Outdoors is in the process of designing a system that will allow plants to be grown on the wall rather from the ground up. It consists of a growing medium that is attached to the building face and feed water and nutrients by a hydroponic like system dripping down from above. Basically mimicking rain forest environments.
